Writer’s Note: How it all started.
It was September 2021 and in about a week or so, two of our good friends were to fly back to Indonesia for good. This was when Sharon and I realized how we took ‘time’ for granted and underestimated the power of documentations—may that be pictures, random videos, or notes.
It was also the second month of Australia’s second lockdown—the time when the word ‘productive’ is equivalent to finishing countless series on Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. Yes, I had all three. If you count YouTube, and Instagram reels, that makes it five.
Months of lockdown went by pretty quick and it started to go downhill. I guess not doing anything ‘productive’ is seriously something that I can’t do. Hella bored. I didn’t have a job, didn’t know what I was doing with my life—still do tbh—but hey, at least I tried to keep myself busy.
How?
I took Mandarin classes and said yes to a bunch of other exciting projects. The most impulsive and biggest flex is this website. In August 2021, I bought my domain, subscribed for the yearly plan—thinking if I had to pay, I’d procrastinate less. Surprise-surprise, this is my first article in 4 months. Lol.
I never really believe in the power of journaling, nor do I have time to do them, but I’m willing to try. I’ve always wanted to start this for quite some time now, but it’s long overdue. It’s fine though, it still excites me. Man, my procrastination and I are inseparable.
So, coming back to that underestimation of the power of documentation. I decided that it is time for me to catch up with myself. To reflect on the things I did, missed, and hope to do in the coming years.
Today marks the first day of 2022. Happy new year to all of us. I don’t know about you all but 2022 is a special year for me so I want to make the most out of it.
This journal will mark my past, present, and future art journey and creative processes. Some will require extensive reading while others would read shorter than a one-word poem. Enjoy!
